Oleta Wilson McIntyre

Oleta Wilson McIntyre, 103, passed away on Aug. 24, 2016, in Montgomery.

Funeral services were held Aug. 27, with the Rev. Tony McCullough and the Rev. Tom Searcy officiating. Burial followed at Magnolia Cemetery in Evergreen with Cope-Keahey Funeral Home of Evergreen directing.

She was born in the Mount Union Community in Conecuh County on Sept. 7, 1912, and lived most of her life in Evergreen. She married E.M. McIntyre on Dec. 23, 1928, and had two children, Bobbie Stokes and Jane Nichols.

She was a retired nurse, having worked for many years for Dr. Reagan Yeargan. After her husband’s death, she moved to Brewton and later to Montgomery. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by two daughters, Bobbie Stokes and Jane (Ben) Nichols; three grandchildren, Bill (Cathy) Stokes, David (Debbie) Stokes and Anne (Albert) Haas; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one sister, Audrey Jeffcoat.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E.M. McIntyre; her parents, Monach and Hattie Wilson; her sister, Corrine Peavy, and her son-in-law, Roy Stokes.

Wanda Diane Cash

Brewton

 

Wanda Diane Cash, 58, passed away Wed., Aug. 31, 2016, at her Brewton residence.

She was born in Brewton and had been a resident of Sandy Springs, Ga., before returning to Brewton.  She had worked as an assembly line worker for Ford Motor Co. in Atlanta. She was of the Christian faith.

She is survived by her daughter, Misty Cash of Brewton; seven brothers, Barney Cash of Century, Fla., Gene Cash of Nashville, George Cash of Bay Minette, Odell Cash of Huntsville, AL, O.D. Cash of Flomaton, AL, Shelby Cash of Pensacola, FL, and William Cash of Mobile, AL; four sisters, Shirley Owens of Flomaton, Linda Batte of Brewton, AL, Rebecca Cash of Pensacola, FL, and Joyce Erskin of Texas; and one grandchild, Meki Keiton Cash.

No formal services will be held.

Francis Marion ‘Frank’ Weaver

Castleberry

 

Francis Marion “Frank” Weaver, 77, of County Road No. 23 in Castleberry, passed away early Sat., Sept. 3, 2016, in an Evergreen medical facility after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Sun., Sept. 4, at 5 p.m. graveside at the Dolihite Cemetery with the Rev. Robert McMillan and the Rev. Bob Godbee officiating and Craver’s Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

He was a native and life-long resident of Conecuh County, and was a retired custodian supervisor with T.R. Miller Mill Company.  He was a member of the Holly Grove Methodist Church.

He is survived by his two sons, Joseph Marion Weaver and Jerry Wayne (Sandy) Weaver, both of Castleberry; two brothers, John Thomas Weaver of Castleberry; Edward L. Weaver of Mobile; two sisters; Judy Baker and Martha Weaver, both of Castleberry; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edward L. and Myrtle R. Rogers Weaver; sister, Agnes R. Johnson; and brother, Rogers A. Weaver.

Dorothy Bowman Gunter

McDavid, Fla.

 

Dorothy Bowman Gunter, 85, of McDavid, Fla., passed away on Thurs., Sept. 1, 2016, at the Century Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services were held on Sun., Sept. 4, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with Flomaton Funeral Home directing.

Interment followed in Ray’s Chapel in Bogia, Fla.

Pallbearers were Chuck Fletcher, Matthew Gunter, Jonathan Cole, Jason Myers, Tony Haslip, Trent Flowers and Tucker Williams.

Honorary pallbearers were Reid Fletcher and Parker Myers.

She was born in McDavid, and remained a lifetime member of the Century community where she was a member of First Baptist Church of Century.  During her working years, she worked as a receptionist for Gulf Coast Vision.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Edwin Gunter, Sr.

She is survived by her daughter, Ava (Alan) Cole of Dothan; her sons, Jimmie Edwin (Vicky) Gunter, Jr. of McDavid, Fla., and Lee (Susan) Gunter of Pensacola, Fla.; sister, Marcella (Herman) Holt of Zwolle, La.; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Doris Patricia Martin Madden

Brewton

 

Doris Patricia Martin Madden, 84, of Appleton Road in Brewton, passed away Monday night, Aug. 28, 2016, at her residence after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Thurs., Sept. 1, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Frankie Bell officiating. Interment followed in Martin Family Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was a native of Montgomery and a life long resident of Brewton. She attended New Home Free Will Baptist Church. She was a 1951 graduate of W.S. Neal High School and was a retired draw twist operator from Monsanto with 33 ½ years of service. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, William Madden of Brewton; son, Michael “Worm” (Brenda) Madden of Brewton; two daughters, Gail Gibson and Sandra Madden, both of Brewton; twin brother, Elmer “Buddy” Riddle of Lancaster, Penn.; five grandchildren, Patty, Pam, Kim, Lee Ann and Hannah; and eight great grandchildren, Marissa, Madison, Anna Grace, Adam, Tori, Ashli, Cody and Hayden.

She is preceded in death by granddaughter, Morgan White; and son-in-law, Oland Gibson.

Coach Hoyt Anthony Davidson, 64, of Woodrow Street in Brewton passed away Thurs., Sept. 1, 2016, at his residence after a brief illness.

Memorial services were held Sun., Sept. 4, at 3 p.m. at Catawba Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Edwards, speaker Bill Henderson officiating and Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

He was a native of Gadsden, Ala., a former resident of Anniston, Alabama and a long time resident of Brewton. He was of the Baptist faith, a graduate of Gadsden High School and the University of Alabama.

He was a retired teacher and baseball coach from Flomaton High School with more than 33 years of service.

He is survived by his mother, Juanita Davidson of Gadsden; wife, Loretta Martin Davidson of Brewton; son, Matt (Aimee) Davidson of New Orleans, La.; brother, Mike Davidson of Gadsden; sister, Kay Armstrong of Gadsden; and three grandchildren, Brayden, Brooks and Emma Kate.

Laura Estelle Downing Laymon, 90, of South Forty Lane in Brewton, passed away Wed., Aug. 31, 2016, in a Jay, Fla., medical facility after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Sept. 3, at 10 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. William Joyner officiating.

Interment followed in Weaver Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was a native and life long resident of Brewton. She was of the Church of God faith and a retired cashier from the retail sales industry.

She is survived by her three sons, Jeffery (Melinda) Laymon of Hayneville, Tommy Laymon of East Brewton, Charles Robert Cannon of Brewton; two grandchildren, Cody (Daphne) Laymon and Autumn Laymon; and one great grandchild, Gabriel Laymon.

Thomas ‘Tommy’ Mose Martin

Brewton

 

Thomas ‘Tommy’ Mose Martin, 80, Derek Lane of Brewton, passed away Sun., Sept. 4, 2016, in a local nursing facility after a brief illness.

Memorial services will be held at a later date and time and will be announced by Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton.

He was a native and life long resident of Brewton. He was a member of the Catawba Springs Baptist Church, a 1955 graduate of T.R. Miller High School, a U.S. Army veteran and a retired recovery operator from the Container Corporation of America with more than 40 years of service. He was an avid Alabama fan.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Helen Ashton Martin of Brewton; two sons, William R. Martin of Brooklyn, N.Y., and John (Amanda) Martin of Luverne; two sisters, Connie Derendinger of College Station, Texas, and Carolyn (Cordell) Wright of Mansfield, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
