Joe Cecil Terry, 65, of Jay, passed away Sun., Aug. 28, 2016, at Baptist Health Care in Jay.

Funeral services were held Thurs., Sept. 1, 2016, in the chapel of Jay Funeral Home, beginning at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Alton Nixon officiating.

He was born Feb. 8, 1951. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf, watching sports on the television, bowling and spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his father, Clifford Cleo Terry; and brother, Dennis Terry.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brook Ann Terry; mother, Mary Arline Terry; two daughters, Cecile Schemel and husband Jerremy of Missouri, Denise Exum and husband Brandon of Dothan; three step-daughters, Glenda Branson of Jay, Darlene Vines and husband Reese of Pensacola, Fla., and Ledia Williams and husband Jeremy of Jay; one brother, Gary Terry and wife Teresa of Cypress, Texas; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous extended family.

Arrangements and services were under the direction of Jay Funeral Home.

JoAnn Sorrells Barnes

Castleberry

JoAnn Sorrells Barnes, 84, of Englewood Circle, Castleberry, passed away Tues., Sept. 20, 2016, at Century Health Center after an extended illness.

Funeral services were held Fri., Sept. 23, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Hall officiating.

Interment followed in Cooper Cemetery, Brewton, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was a native of Forrester, Ark., raised in Glenwood, Ark., and a long time resident of Brewton. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by four sons, Ronald E. Barnes, Wayne Barnes and Bobby Barnes, all of Brewton, and Scotty Barnes of Bridgeport; four daughters, Carolyn Plataka of Cabot, Ark., Linda Rivera of Thornton, Colo., Pamela Springer of Brunswick, Ga., and Patty Holloway of Wedowee; a brother, Don Allen Sorrells of California; a sister, Bobbye Jacque Barrentine of Glenwood, Ark.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Luther Barnes; a son, Maxwell Barnes; two brothers, Jimmy Sorrells and Warren Sorrells; and a number of sisters.

William ‘Dub’ Jefferson Davis

Brewton

William “Dub” Jefferson Davis, 86, of Travis Road Brewton, passed away Sat., Sept. 24, 2016, in a Pensacola, Fla., medical facility after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held today, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Burns and Speaker Bernie Raines officiating.

Interment will follow in Fort Crawford Cemetery, East Brewton, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native of Elba, and a life long resident of Brewton. He was of the Methodist faith, a 1949 graduate of W.S. Neal High School and a U.S. Army veteran. He was the manager at White’s Auto Sales for more than 20 years and was a farmer.

He is survived by a son, Billy (Donna) Davis of Brewton, three nieces, Sharon (Gene) Lampkin, Rita (Ronnie) Johns, and Linda (Walker) Williams; step grandchildren, Madison Joyner and Emma Joyner; and special friends, Doris Bullock and Danny Bullock.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Davis; a brother, Jube Davis and three sisters, Mildred Newson, Olene Davis and Cupidene Franklin.

Stephen ‘Steve’ Wayne Evans Sr.

Stephen “Steve” Wayne Evans, Sr., 69, of Rufus Evans Road in Brewton passed away Wed., Sept. 21, 2016, in a local hospital after a extended illness.

Funeral services were held Sat., Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Elder Tommy Jernigan and Elder Sharon Jernigan officiating.

Interment followed in May Creek Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

He was a native of Montevallo and grew up in Leeds. He was a long time resident of Brewton. He was a member of the East Brewton Community of Christ Church. He attended Leeds High School and W.S. Neal High School and served in the U.S. Navy.

He enjoyed gardening, and was retired from the maintenance department from D.W. McMillan Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta King Evans of Brewton; three sons, Steve Evans, Jr., Dewayne Evans and Shawn Evans, all of Brewton; daughter, Karen Nelson of Cheyenne, Wyo.; four brothers, Charles Evans of Spanish Fort, James Evans of Gautier, Miss., Darrell Evans and Rufus Evans, both of Brewton; two sisters, Nellie Johnson of Brewton, and Betty Jo Edeker of Evergreen; and eight grandchildren.

James Edward Lloyd

Brewton

James Edward Lloyd, 83, of Brewton, passed away on Sat., Sept. 24, 2016, at Century Health and  Rehabilitation Center in Century, Fla.

His family will be receiving visitors on Fri., Sept. 30, at Craver’s Funeral Home Chapel from 6 until 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Sat., Oct. 1, at Craver’s Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Cephus Goldsmith officiating and Craver’s Funeral Home directing.

Interment will be at a later date.

He was born in Butler County, and had been a member of the Brewton community since December of 1972 coming from Fort Deposit.

He had been employed with L&N and later CSX Railroad for a combination of 35 years as a track repairman. He was a member of the Logan Hunting Club and of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary A. Lloyd of Brewton. To this union, five children were born; two sons, Marcus (Margo) Lloyd of Lithonia, Ga. and Jacky Lloyd of Brewton; three daughters, Joyce (Foulton) Dent of Dallas, Ga., Gloria Lloyd of Montgomery, and Sheila (Steve) Mahaffey of Ellenwood, Ga,;  an additional son, Dedrick (Anisha) Lloyd of Fort Deposit; a brother, Arthur (Annie Nell) Lloyd of Palm Dale, Calif.; grandchildren, Timirra (Melanie) Nolan, Brittany Lloyd, Timiya Nolan, Marcus Allen Lloyd and Dennis Dent; great grandchildren, Thyeis Nolan, Tayden Nolan, Taylah Nolan, and Chloe Smith.

Angelina Christina Makayla Freeman

Jay, Fla.

Angelina Christina Makayla Freeman, 14, of Jay, passed away at her home on Fri., Sept. 23, 2016.

No formal services will be held for Miss Freeman.

She was born in Rockledge, Fla., and had been a resident of Jay since March 2016 coming from Panama City, Fla.

She was an extremely talented artist with sketching and painting. She enjoyed working with clay and was enrolled in online school in the ninth grade. She was of the Assembly of God faith.

She is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Dennis Freeman.

She is survived by her parents, Aaron and Christina Freeman of Jay; maternal grandparents, Patricia (Michael) Roman of Titusville, Fla.; and paternal grandmother, Beth Freeman of Berwyck, Pa.
