Brewton native wanted for murder

Brewton native Joseph Ryan Carter is wanted by the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshalls for the first-degree murder of Joe Nathan Thomas.

Carter, 30, is a white male expected to be armed and dangerous.

According to the MCSO they were contacted around 2.19 a.m. Thursday morning, responding to I-65 North just south of the General W.K. Wilson Jr. (Dolly Pardon) Bridge.

MCSO Deputies arrived on the scene to find Thomas with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. An unidentified female witness on the scene stated that she had been in the vehicle with Thomas and Carter earlier that evening. She also stated that she and Thomas were outside the vehicle when she heard a gun shot and saw Thomas fall to the ground. The female witness fled into nearby woods and contacted authorities.

At this time, the female witness is not being charged. The incident is still under investigation.
