E.B. to welcome new retail

East Brewton’s economic landscape is growing by at least three new businesses.

Signs on some of the city’s buildings and announcements on social media announce the arrival of Inner Fit Martial Arts, Simply Donuts & Kolaches and Miss Jackie’s restaurant, as well as the impending reopening of the laundry mat in the Piggly Wiggly shopping center.

East Brewton City Clerk Karen Singleton said city officials – and local residents – are thrilled about the new additions.

“We are certainly glad for any new business who chooses East Brewton as its new home,” Singleton said. “The additions are better for the residents and for the city.”

The businesses help contribute to the city’s tax base, and, in turn provide services for residents, Singleton said.

Inner Fit Martial Arts will be located just before the Murder Creek Bridge and will be operated by Lisa Cunningham and Rachel White. With more than 30 years of combined experience in the field of martial arts, the two will offer classes – including fitness classes – Monday through Friday beginning at 5 p.m. for students of all ages.

White and Cunningham, who both work at Grede/MPG, hope to bring a level of expertise to the area.

“We love it, just like we love watching our students learn and grow,” White said.

Classes can be booked now; however, they will officially begin on Jan. 9.

Set to open the second week of January, Simply Donuts & Kolaches will offer a traditional assortment of pastries as well as introduce a new delight to residents – kolaches, which are sausage-wrapped with fresh baked, soft and tender homemade dough. It will be located at 100 Florida Street and offer other traditional breakfast foods. Owners, Johnny Moeun and wife, Melanie, also operate an Atmore location with family and are set to open an Andalusia location in two weeks.

City records also show that Miss Jackie’s Restaurant will soon open in the site next to the Circle K, while renovations are ongoing at the city’s laundry mat.
