Peach’s Roney earns one of GM’s top certifications

Wayne Roney of Peach Chevrolet has earned the GM World Class Technician certification – a distinction earned by only 14 others in Alabama.

Roney of Jay, Fla., has worked at Peach for nearly two years. He began his GM training in 1987.

“I naturally fell into it,” Roney said of being a mechanic. “My uncle was a diesel mechanic, and I can remember being 8, watching him work.”

Over the years, he continued to earn certifications, which made the new program a next logical step.

“If you’re not getting better, you’re going backward,” he said. “I felt this was something I needed to do. I tend to be a problem solver. I’m not the best tech, but I’m persistent. I’m going to work to find a solution to the customer’s problem.”

The GM World Class Technician program “takes service training to a whole new level,” industry techs said. It combines Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) training while being a step-up from “industry standards” (ASE Certification). World Class Technicians demonstrate performance through the acquisition of skills and knowledge through GM STC curriculum.
After achieving over 450 hours of training and assessment, GM Certified technicians have the unique opportunity to become World Class Technicians in the GM Service Technical College training program.
“The World Class Technician program provides technicians the opportunity to validate their knowledge and demonstrate their skills to themselves, to their employees, and most importantly to their customer in all automotive service areas,” said Chip Peach of Peach Chevrolet. “And we are so pleased to offer this to our customers.”
A service technician can achieve GM World Class Technician status in two areas: Mechanical and Body. Both can be achieved when a technician successfully completes all related GM Service Technical College training and the appropriate GM Master Technician Certifications.
