Wilma V. Fuqua Lambert

Brewton

Wilma V. Fuqua Lambert, 91, of Dogwood Lane in Brewton passed away Tues., March 14, in a Jay, Fla., medical facility after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Fri., March 17, at 3 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. George Weaver and the Rev. Bernie Raines officiating. Interment followed in Green Acres Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was a native of the Dixie Community Brewton, and a life long resident of Brewton. She was of member of the East Brewton First United Methodist Church,. She was a retired secretary from the Escambia County, Ala., School System, and was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and canning.

She is survived by her sons, Earl (Becky) Lambert of Brewton, and Denny (Tanya) Lambert of Andalusia; daughter, JoAnn Downing of Brewton; brother, Ronnie (Linda) Fuqua of Brewton; five grandchildren, Leigh L. Moore, Jake Lambert, Joe Downing, Clay Lambert and Taylor Lambert Causey; and five great grandchildren, Rebecca Ann Moore, John Moore, Colin Causey, Ella Gray Lambert and Claire Lambert.

She was preceded in death by parents, David and Maybell Ware Fuqua; husband, George Lambert; two brothers, Jullian Fuqua and Charles Fuqua; sister, Virginia Waller; and grandson, DJ Downing.

Dr. Cleatus Aaron Dozier

Brewton

Dr. Cleatus Aaron Dozier, 96, died on Sat., March 25, 2017, in Pensacola, Fla.

Visitation will be held at Fri., Fri., March 31, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow visitation at 3 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton a, with the Rev. John Finklea officiating. Interment will follow in Catawba Springs Cemetery in Brewton, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.

He was a longtime resident of Brewton, and received his early education in Brewton. After graduation from T.R. Miller High School in 1938, he attended Auburn University and Atlanta Dental College (Emory University).

While in dental school, he joined the U.S. Navy Reserves and was called to active duty in January 1944. He volunteered to serve with the U.S. Marine Corp, 2nd Marine Division, 3rd Amphibious Corp, in the Pacific Theatre of Operations in World War II, in the Medical Corp. He was awarded the World War II Victory, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Service and China Occupation medals during his service.

Returning to Brewton in 1946, he joined his father in dental practice and married Edith Cain in August of the same year. He started a dental health clinic for children with the Escambia County Health Department in 1956. With caring hands, competence and skill, he continued treating patients until retiring from his practice in 1990. During that time, he served as President of the 4th District Alabama Dental Association and in several officer capacities with the Alabama Dental Association.

He was president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1953 and a member of the American Legion for 69 years.

Being an avid fisherman and hunter, he shared his love of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. He was a farmer at heart and worked tirelessly raising all manner of vegetables, fruits and animals, including Tennessee Walker horses that he showed with great pride.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. B.D. Dozier; mother, Virginia Olive Dozier; sister, Annie Laura Shirah; and son, William Daniel Dozier.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Edith Cain Dozier; three children, Joe Cain (Beverly) Dozier, Judy Dozier (Charles) Drysdale and Donna Dozier (Whitney) Bush; 10 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

June Delores Taylor

Brewton

On March 23, 2017, a golden heart stopped beating. June Delores Taylor was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother too.

Funeral services were held on Mon., March 27, at noon at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Edwards officiating. Interment followed in Catawba Springs Cemetery in Brewton, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

She was blessed with a large and loving family. She married Francis Elijah Taylor on January 20, 1961, in Brewton. Together they raised two beautiful children. She dedicated her life to family and being a homemaker. She loved genealogy, gardening, cooking, animals and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Catawba Springs Baptist Church.  She was a 1954 graduate of W.S. Neal High School and was an avid genealogist and Alabama fan.

She will always be remembered for her quiet strength, never complaining and always looking for a better future. Her character, strength and selfless love were shown on her walk home to be with her creator. She will be deeply missed and although apart, her spirit lives forever in the hearts of all those who love her.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Taylor of Brewton; son, Rodney “Sport” (Cynthia Florek) Taylor of Colorado Springs, Co.; daughter, Fran Taylor of Brewton; sister, Dean Watson of East Brewton; four grandchildren, Caleb Kent, Zachary Taylor, Ali Taylor and Ryan Kulp; and two great grandchildren, Raghean Morris and Annelise Kent.

She is preceded in death by parents, John Wesley and Katie Simmons Capps; two brothers, Dub Capps and Pete Capps; and three sisters, Stella Lucas, Mabel Mantel and Myrtise Hart.

Raymond Stanford Moore

Brewton

Raymond Stanford Moore, 79, left this life for his eternal resting place on March 17, 2017 after a brief hospitalization with Parkinson’s related pneumonia.

Funeral services were held Sat., March 25, at 2:30 p.m. at Zion Fountain A.M.E Church in Brewton with the Rev. Dr. H.K. Matthews pastor officiating. Interment followed in Baptist Hill Cemetery in Brewton with Presley-Fluker officiating.

He was born on Jan. 25, 1938 in Thomaston. He was the son of the late Atlary and Willie McNeal and the grandson of the late Leslie and Mary Moore. He accepted Christ at an early age and attended church with his mother. He graduated from Southern Norman High School and received his bachelor’s of science degree from Tennessee State in Nashville, Tenn.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army and after an 18-month deployment in Germany he received an honorable discharge certification.

He had a love of music: jazz and gospel singing. He was an avid sports fan. He loved playing baseball and softball and at age 53, he was still going strong.

He spent years counseling and mentoring the young and needy. He was employed by the city of New York from 1965 to 1996. After retiring he returned to his hometown of Brewton. When he returned home, he rejoined Zion Fountain A.M.E. Zion Church where he served as an exhorter, a member of the Finance Committee.

He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease more than 12 years ago. During the end stage of the disease, he was in and out of the hospital. He was a fighter and had a strong will. He was witty, compassionate and easy going. He had an unquenchable faith and lobed the Lord Jesus with all his heart.

He leaves to mourn a devoted wife and son, Roemaine Hayden-Moore and Raymond Eric Moore of Montgomery; godson, Michael Culbreth of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; two sisters, Catherine Montgomery of Chicago, Ill., and an affectionate sister, Ruth Culbreth of Mt. Vernon, N.Y. He also leaves brothers-in-law, Sylvester (Glenda Faye) Van Wyck, S.C, Bennie Hayden of Lancaster, S.C., and Pernell Crockett of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters-in-law, Thomasena Hayden of Bowie, Md., Burnetta Hayden and Patricia Hayden, both of Lancaster, S.C.; and his caregivers who he cared a lot about and they cared a lot for him.

He was affectionately called “Unk” by nieces and nephews from the Carolinas, Virginia and Maryland. Three very special families (the Greens, Simmons and McMillian) were always very supportive and did what they could for Raymond. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of cousins, other family members and friends.

Ruby Dell Jasper

Brewton

Ruby Dell Jasper, 69, passed away on March 17, 2017.

Funeral services were held Sat., March 25, at 11 a.m. at Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Brewton with the Rev. Eric T. Andrews pastor officiating. Interment followed at Baptist Hill Cemetery with Presley-Fluker directing.

She was born on March 15, 1948, the youngest child to the late Harvey and Mattie Jasper. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and united with Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Bryant. She attended elementary and high school at Southern Normal School. She was very well liked as a teenager. She had a quiet and loving disposition. She loved to dance and listen to music.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Mattie Jasper; Willia Jean Culliver; and several close relatives.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Torrence Jasper (Dell) of Manassas, Va., and Randy Jasper of Birmingham; and three grandchildren, Tyler Jasper, Travis Jasper and Ariel Jasper.

Remembering her life are her loving sisters and brothers, Milliarstine Coleman (James) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Richard L. Jasper (Lillian) of Tacoma, Wa., Harvey Jasper Jr. (Nancy) of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
