Flomaton

William Riley Smith, 95, of Pleasant Home Circle in Flomaton, passed away Tues., April 4, 2017, in a local hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Sat. April 8, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Minister Harvey Ellis officiating. Interment followed in Catawba Springs Cemetery in Brewton, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native and life long resident of Escambia County. He attended the Brewton Kingdom Hall. He was a retired crane operator and switch engine operator from T.R. Miller Mill with 37 years of service. He enjoyed hunting and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Byrd Smith of Flomaton; two sons, James Smith of Brewton, and David (Leigh) Smith of Flomaton; two brothers, Jesse Smith of Bay Minette, and Edward Smith of Mobile; three sisters, Lillie Entrekin of Brewton, Edith Watson of Tennessee, and Hazel Lacosts of Century, Fla.; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

He is preceded in death by parents, B.D. and Ella Laster Smith; two sons, William Smith and Elvin Smith; and daughter-in-law, Doris J. Smith.

Matthew ‘Matt’ Mark Haugh

Brewton

Matthew “Matt” Mark Haugh, 86, of Brewton, passed away Wed., April 5, 2017, in a Pensacola, Fla., hospital after a brief illness.

He was a native and former resident of Somerville, Mass., and a long time resident of Brewton, and stayed because he loved the weather.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sun., April 9, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Kermit George officiating. Interment followed in Bradley Assembly of God Church Cemetery (Bradley Community) in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton.

He was of the Catholic faith, a U.S. Air Force veteran, a member of the American Legion, and a retired millwright from the Container Corporation of America with more than 25 years of service. He  operated Matt’s Used Cars until he passed away. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and an occasional poker game.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Bill) O’Connor of Pace, Fla.; grandson, John (Candice) Williams; great grandchildren, Emily and Michael; brother-in-law, Riley (Glenda) Elliott; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by parents, Michael and Sarah Monihan Haugh; wife, Jewel Elliott Haugh; and daughter, Denise Haugh Settle.

Norvelle Rawls Williams

Brewton

Norvelle Rawls Williams, 80, of Rodgers Lane in Brewton, passed away Sat., April 8, 2017, in a local nursing facility after a brief illness.

Visitation will be held today, April 12, 10 a.m. at the North Brewton Baptist Church in Brewton.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the North Brewton Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Williamson officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

She was a native of Natchez, Miss., a former resident of Pritchard, and a long time resident of Brewton. She was a member of the North Brewton Baptist Church and a graduate of Seminary High School. She was a legal secretary and was retired from medical records at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by two sons, Dr. Jeff Williams of Fairhope and Tracey Williams of Birmingham; daughter, Monica (Michael) Graydon of Columbus, Ga.; brother, Sam Rawls of Chickasaw; and seven grandchildren, Megan Williams, Emily Graydon, Allison Williams, Sidney Williams, Jackson Williams, Jacob Williams and Will Graydon.

She was preceded in death by parents, Ransom and Eunice Wade Rawls; husband, Jack Williams, and brother, WF Rawls.

Willie ‘Bill’ Charles Happoldt Jr.

Brewton

Willie “Bill” Charles Happoldt Jr., 86, of Franklin Avenue in Brewton, passed away Sat., April 8, 2017, in a Pensacola, Fla.,  hospital after a brief illness.

Visitation will be held Thurs., April 13, noon at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton.

Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Thompson officiating.

Interment will follow in Union Cemetery in Brewton, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was of the Assembly of God faith, a U.S. Navy veteran, and a member of the American Legion. He owned and Operated Happoldt’s Service and Supply from 1973 to 2013. He enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Sutton Happoldt of Brewton; three sons, David (Alicia) Happoldt of Dothan, Charles Happoldt and Richard (Suzanne) Happoldt, both of Brewton; two daughters, Judy (Donald) Jernigan and Sandra Barrow, both of Brewton; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Marvin F. ‘Jimmy’ Snowden

Brewton

Marvin F. “Jimmy” Snowden, 83, passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side on Fri., April 7, 2017.

Funeral services were held on Tues., April 11, at 10 a.m., from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Minister Jeff “Buck” Mast officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at Mobile Memorial Gardens at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Pallbearers were Lin Hinds Jr., Anthony “Buddy” Portella II, Mark Lanton, Mark Janik, Mike Myrick and T.J. Motes.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Harriet McLeod Snowden.

He grew up in Evergreen and had been a longtime resident of Brewton, where he worked as a barber for 45 years.

He is remembered as a happy man with a soft heart. He loved to help his friends and neighbors whenever he could. He was a retired Marine and served in the Korean War. He loved to travel to see his family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Marvin Jeffrey (Kim) Snowden of Gulfport, Miss., Janet Snowden of Brewton, Joy (Anthony) Portella, Lin (Doris) Hinds Jr., both of Mobile, and Sharon Kay (Edward) Hinds Dearman of Daphne; four brothers, Buck Mast of McMinnville, Tenn., Chuck Mast of Bakersville, Calif., Bill Snowden of Starkville, Miss., and Johnny (Patty) Snowden of Mobile; brothers-in-law, L. J. Willingham and Ulmer “Skeet” McLeod; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Gegenheimer, Anthony Portella II, Christin Motes, Taylor Marerro, Emma Snowden, Abby Snowden, Michael Hinds, Richard Hinds and Victoria Lassiter; five great-grandchildren, Phoenix, Aliza, Birdie, Thomas and August; and a number of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was loved by all his family and will be greatly missed.

James “Timmy” Timothy Garrett, 56, of Hillcrest Drive in Castleberry, passed away Sat., April 8, 2017, in a Montgomery hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for today, April 12, at 10 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. James Aubrey Wilson officiating. Interment followed in Buffington Cemetery in Castleberry, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native of Brewton, and a life long resident of Castleberry. He was of the Baptist faith and a former clerk at Miller Trading Company.

He is survived by his mother, Georgia Little Garrett of Castleberry; four brothers, George L. Garrett of Foley, Chester Garrett and David Garrett, both of Castleberry, and Jody Billingsley of Brewton; sister, Judy Miniard of Georgiana; and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, George L. Garrett; and brothers, Jerry Garrett and Ricky Garrett.
