Juanita Davis Jolly

Brewton

Juanita Davis Jolly, 69, of Brewton, passed away on May 10, 2017, in Pensacola, Fla.

Funeral services were held Thurs., May 18, at 11 a.m., at Second Saint Siloam Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Lee officiating, and Presley-Fluker Funeral Directors directing. Interment followed at the Bergen Memorial Cemetery of Brewton. Pallbearers were Terence Samuel, Elliot Jolly, Fredrick Samuel, Demetris Preyer, Andre Preyer, Greg Freeman, Jansen Samuel and Spencer Preyer.

She was born Sept. 10, 1947, to the late Likely and Ola Bell Davis, in Conecuh County (Franklintown Community).

She confessed Christ at an early age at Greater Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Pensacola.

She graduated from Washington High School in Pensacola in 1966. She attended Pensacola Junior College. She was employed at Bellsouth in Pensacola where she was the first black telephone operator. She married and relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, and from that union she was blessed with two daughters.

In 1976 she married Lawrence Jolly and to this union was born two children. Upon relocating to Brewton, she united with the First St. Siloam Missionary Baptist Church. She was active in the choir, Praise Team, Missionary, and Minister’s Wives ministries. She also attended Jefferson Davis Community College where she received her Certified Nursing Assistant diploma. At the time of her death she was employed with the Brewton Police Department as a crossing guard where she made many friends and was a great impact upon the community.

She was preceded in death by two siblings, Betty Jean Davis and Earnest Lee Davis; and a stepdaughter, Shirley Jolly Stoner.

Her memories will forever be cherished by a loving and devoted husband for more than 41 years, Lawrence Jolly Sr.; four children, Zanobia Moore Burns of Calerea, Sonya M. (Walter) Anderson of Tuscaloosa, Centoria Calena Jones and Lawrence (Alycia) Jolly, II, both of Brewton; two step daughters, Chantrell Jolly of Tifton, Ga., and Mildred Jolly of Cleveland, Ohio; three sisters; Annie Lee Nance of Pensacola, Dorothy (Willie Clarence) Samuel of Brewton, and Janice (James) Preyer of Pensacola; two brothers; Eugene Andrew (Emma) Davis of Orlando, Fla., and Otis (Inester) Davis of Tampa, Fla.; four sisters-in- law; Mildred (Moses) William, Tallahassee, Fla., Zelma (Herbert) Bridges, Gladys (Christopher) Hamm, both of Wilson, N.C., Janice Yarbrough of Cleveland, Ohio; five brothers-in- law; Robert (Joann) Jolly of Albany, Ga., Amos (Clarice) Jolly of Wilson, N.C., Horace (Rose) Jolly, Rufus (Valerie) Jolly of Moultrie, Ga., Glancer (Brenda) Jolly of Wilson, N.C.; twenty two grandchildren, three great grandchildren, four God children, Elizabeth Reed, Kadesia Palmore, Greg Freeman, and Gary Freeman; and many loving nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Betty Amelia Sandoval

Escambia County

Betty Amelia Sandoval, 94, passed away Tues, April 25, 2017, in a local health care facility.

A memorial service for her will be held at a later date.

She was born in Anaheim, Calif., and had been a resident of Escambia County since 2012, coming from Fresno, Calif. During her working years, she was a hotel desk clerk, and was of the Catholic faith. 

She was preceded in death by a son, Albert Alex Breceda Jr.

She is survived by a son, Paul Sandoval of Fresno, Calif; a daughter, Gloria Castille of Las Lunes, N.M.; four grandchildren, the Rev. Steve Breceda, Brenda Breceda, Sandra Breceda, and Dee Temple Breceda; two great-grandchildren, Rosie Boyte and Haley Centers; and a great-great-granddaughter, Eliza Centers.

Grady Morris Franklin

Jay, Fla.

Grady Morris Franklin, 73, of Jay Road in Brewton, passed away Sat., May 20, 2017, at his residence after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Tues., May 23, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. John McLaren and the Rev. Jeff Scurlock officiating. Interment followed in Union Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was a native of Andalusia, a former resident of Bradley, and a long time resident of Brewton. He was a member of the East Brewton First Assembly of God Church, a 1962 graduate of W.S. Neal High School, and a retired machine operator from T.R. Miller Mill Company with 43 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janice Adams Franklin of Brewton; two daughters, Julie Franklin (Fallon) Bush of Atmore, and Jennifer (Rick) Carden of Birmingham; two brothers, David Franklin of Mobile, and Gerald (Faye) Franklin of East Brewton; six grandchildren, Casidee Bush, Kylie Bush, Kathlynn Bush, Reece Carden, Cameron Carden and Brady Carden; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Franklin of Huntsville.

He is preceded in death by parents, Henry Grady and Lillie Elliott Franklin; two brothers, Vernon Franklin and Dan Franklin; and sister, Frances Franklin Dodgens.

Gary Sellers

Century, Fla.

Gary Sellers, 51, of Castleberry, passed away Fri., May 19, 2017, after a brief illness. 

Services to be announced at a later date with Craver’s Funeral Home In. of Brewton in charge of arrangements.

He was a native of Century, Fla., and was a long time resident of the Brewton and Conecuh County areas. He was a foreman in the construction industry and of the Christian faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Thomas Sellers.

He is survived by his mother, Betty Forshee Sellers; wife, Mary Lane Sellers, both of Brewton; two sons; Joshua (Tabitha) Sellers of Ellisville, Miss., and Jered (April) Sellers of Myrick, Miss.; two brothers,  Rick Sellers of Belle Chasse, La., and  Thomas Sellers of Barnett Crossroads Community; six sisters; Charlene (Wendell) Kast of Castleberry; Brenda (Michael) Madden of Appleton; Janet (Chris) Byrd, Cheryl (Robert) Neal, Sharie (Joey) Evans, and Priscilla (Burton) Odom, all of Brewton; two step-grandchildren, Rowyn Bell and Sarah Lane; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
