The Escambia County Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Department is establishing an Explorer post to provide a Fire and Rescue Services Exploring Program in Escambia County.

Exploring is Learning for Life’s career education program for young men and women who are 14 and have completed eighth grade or 15-20 years old.

Exploring’s purpose is to provide experience to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. It is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the organizations in their communities.

Local community organizations initiate an Explorer post by matching their people and program resources to the interest of young people in the community. The result is a program of activities that helps youth pursue their special interest, grow and develop.

Exploring programs are based on five areas of emphasis—career opportunities, life skills, citizenship, character education and leadership experience.

The first annual meeting for the Explorers will be held Thurs., June 8 at 6 p.m. at the East Brewton Civic Center. Refreshments will be served.
