Clifford Daniel Givens

Flomaton

Clifford Daniel Givens, 77, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017, in a Pensacola hospital.

Funeral services are held today, July 19, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Rusty Burnham officiating. Interment will follow at Baggett’s Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Ron Givens, Tristan Brown, Bradly Givens, Noah Givens, Donald “Mann” Wages and Chad Givens.

Honorary pallbearers are Kay Cargile, Leighann May, Jessica Givens, Ashleigh Denton, Stephanie Givens and Bailee Givens.

He was born in Mobile and had been a resident of the Flomaton area for the past 33 years, coming from Eight Mile.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and had worked as a chemical operator for Huntsman Chemical Co.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening and yard work. He also loved music and traveling. He was a member of Friendship Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Elbert Givens and Nellie Mae Gatwood Givens; two sisters, Edith Odom and Ruth Helen Broadus; a brother, Willard Givens; and a grandson, D.D. Weaver.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Givens of Flomaton; sons, Ronald Timothy (Lynn) Givens, Sr. of St. Stephen, Bryan Daniel (Valerie) Givens of Flowood, Miss., and Steven Earl (Linda) Lisenby and wife Linda of Bay Minette, AL; a daughter, Marie Rocha Denton and husband, Dennis of St. Stephens, AL; brothers, Rex (Terri) Givens of Semmes, Dale (Cindy) Givens of Eight Mile, William Elbert Givens, Jr. of Camden, and Chad Givens of Cumming, Ga.; sisters, Iris (David) Miller of Wilmer, Dottie (Jim) Humphrey, Ramona (Pat) Miller, and Inez Westmoreland, all of Foley; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friendship Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, or to The Gideon’s.

Clyde Madden Jr.

Brewton

Clyde “Soda Pop” Madden Jr., 72, of Mason Mill Pond Road in Brewton, passed away Mon., July 17, 2017 in a Pensacola, Fla. hospital after a brief illness.

Visitation will be held today, July 19, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thurs., July 20 at 2 p.m at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Reo Pugh officiating. Interment will follow in Weaver Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

He was a native and life lomg resident of Brewton, Alabama. Mr. Madden was a member of the Jubilee Full Gospel Church, and a retired Boilermaker from the construction Industry. He was an avid fisherman, and deer hunter, and boilermakers local 112.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Smith Madden; daughter, Pam (Michael) Morris, both of Brewton; brother, Willie Charles Madden of Castleberry; two half brothers, Wayne Madden and Shelton Rusty Madden, both of Brewton; five sisters, Agnes Crutchfield of Evergreen, Eva Jean Evans of East Brewton, Marie Hale of Brewton, Bonnie Walker of Dothan, and Linda Faye White of Tuscaloosa; two step-sisters, Glennis Gomillon of Pensacola, Fla., and Nadine Kearley of Mobile; three grandchildren, Suzannah Birch, Erica Ross and Dana Morris; and three great grandchildren, Natalie Birch, Avery Birch and Olivia Ross.

He is preceded in death by parents, Clyde Sr. and Rutie Bell Morris Madden; son, Ricky “Bug” Madden; brother, William Madden; and sister, Emily Cooper.

Mary Nell Brown Gibbs

Jay, Fla.

Mary Nell Brown Gibbs, 78, of Ganey Ford Road  in Jay, Fla., passed away Wed., July 12, 2017 at her residence after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Sat., July 15, at 10 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Thompson officiating. Interment followed in Dixonville Cemetery in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton directing.

She was a native and former resident of Mobile, before moving to Jay. She attended Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. She graduated from the Convent of Mercy High School in Mobile, and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her three sons, Eddie (Michele) Gibbs Jr. of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Jake (Alesia) Gibbs, and John (Michele) Gibbs, both of Jay; sister, Bonnie Wynne of Port St. Joe, Fla.; and seven grandchildren, Andrew (Katie) Gibbs, Joshua Gibbs, Timothy Gibbs, Anna Gibbs, Zachary Gibbs, Jeremy Gibbs and Bridget Gibbs.

Elizabeth Ann Rowell Simmons

East Brewton

Elizabeth Ann Rowell Simmons, 79, of Harold Street in East Brewton, passed away Sat., July 15, 2017 in a local hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Tues., July 18, at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Lambeth officiating.

Interment followed in Green Acres Cemetery in Brewton, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

She was a native and life long resident of Brewton and East Brewton. She was of the Baptist faith and a 1957 graduate of T.R. Miller High School. She loved being a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Derrell Simmons; daughter, Monica (Johnny) Lambeth, both of East Brewton; two grandchildren, Jacob Davis and Mallory Davis; three great grandchildren, Kaelyn Reed, Jordyn Reed and Leia Bomboy; one niece, Carol Frantz; and two nephews, Jerome Langford and Paul Langford.

She is preceded in death by parents, Woodrow (Dugan) Wilson and Mamie Savage Rowell; and sister, Euna Langford.

Rita Audrey Cooper

Castleberry

Rita Audrey Cooper, 53, passed away on Thurs., July 13, 2017, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

Funeral services were held on Mon. , July 17, at 10 a.m. at Glory Hill Holiness Church with Bro. Frankie Bell officiating.

Interment followed in Glory Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Fred Stuckey, Richard Bartlett, Ryan Bartlett, Eric Bradley, Seth Cooper and Nathan Thomley.

She was born in Monroeville and was a resident of Castleberry. She was a graduate of Repton High School and worked as a billing clerk at Monroe County Hospital. She was a member of Glory Hill Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, William “Babe” Bradley, and a brother, John Paul Bradley.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Stevie Cooper of Castleberry; her mother, Linda Gail Partin of Mexia; a son, Brandon Cooper of Repton; a daughter, Shellie (Malcom) Madden of Brewton; three brothers, Joe (Pam) Bradley, Bobby Ray Bradley, both of Monroeville, AL, and Jason Bradley of Mexia; one sister, Theresa Nicholson of Repton; and four grandchildren, Hannah Madden, Caleb Madden, Micah Madden and William Cooper.

Gullice ‘Tiny’Richardson Sr.

Brewton

Gullice “Tiny” Richardson Sr., 91, passed away on July 9, 2017.

Funeral services were held: Sat., July 15, at 11 a.m. at Little Brooklyn Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Gray, pastor officiating.

Interment followed in the Little Brooklyn Cemetery.

He was born on July 11, 1925 to Melvin and Teretha Richardson in Escambia County. He began his Christian experience as a little boy at Little Brooklyn Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member.

He attended Boykin School. Upon reaching the age of employment, he worked at T.R. Miller. He later became an automotive tire technician at Jernigan Nordmeyer and Big “M” Tires.

After retirement, he became more committed to the work he really enjoyed – farming, vault service, bush hogging and logging wood. He was the epitome of a workaholic. He found work to be a treasure to be sought after rather than a task to be avoided. He lived the motto, “If I can help somebody as I travel along, then my living shall not be in vain.”

He was preceded in death by his parents; nine sons, Leroy, Clifford, Robert, Connie Ray, Gullice Jr., Henry, Kenneth, Orlando and Nathaniel; two sisters, Annie Jewel Jones and Ammie Lee Bennett; and two brothers, Eugene and Willice Richardson.

He leaves to forever cherish his memories a very special companion, Lillie Ruth Sanders of Brewton; three daughters, Diann Evans of Long Beach, Calif., Gwendolyn Jones of Brewton, and Wilene Richardson of Montgomery; three sisters, Rebecca Michaels and Ester (James) Jackson, both of Pensacola, Fla., and Louise (Anderson) Johnson of Brewton; and one brother, Melvin Richardson Jr. of Brewton.

He is also survived by two aunts, Sara Jackson and Ella Mae Knight, both of Pensacola, Fla.; an uncle, the Rev. Otis Culliver of Monroeville; and three sisters-in-law, Wilma Richardson, Nancy Richardson and Doris Thomas.

He was blessed to have 17 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Kimberly Wynette Johnson

Evergreen

Kimberly Wynette Johnson, 49, passed away Sun., July 9, 2017, at the Evergreen Medical Center in Evergreen.

Funeral services were held Fri., July 14, at 11 a.m., at Unity In Christ Outreach Ministries in Evergreen with the Pastor Wayne W. Nevlous officiating.

Interment followed at J.B. Jordan Memorial Garden Cemetery in Evergreen.

Johnson was the fourth child born to the late Robert and Doris Johnson on June 5, 1968 in Evergreen. She attended Evergreen High School and was a graduate of the class of 1986. Later, she attended Reid State Technical College, where she received her degree in early childhood education.

She resided at Northfork Apartments in Evergreen. She attended the First Baptist Missionary Baptist Church and later she was baptized and joined Unity In Christ Outreach Ministry where she served diligently as one of the lead members of the choir.

She was a mother first, who loved and adored her three children. She was a loving, sweet, spirited woman who was loved by all who came in contact with her. She was an inspiration to many; always trying to tell everybody about somebody that can save anybody.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories the devoted father of her children, Arnold Parrish; and their three children, Arnold Jr., Demarcus and Sha’Doris, all of Evergreen; a devoted sister, Priscilla Finklea (who said she was her baby, sister and best friend) of Evergreen; three brothers, Kenneth (Joann) Rogers, Robert Johnson, both of Evergreen, and Reginald (Lynette) Johnson of Rockville, Md.; an uncle, James (Ayako) Welch of Lompoc, Calif.; an aunt, Sara Randolph of Evergreen; 10 grandchildren; devoted nieces and caregivers, Damita, D’Atra, Nina and Jasmine; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
