The Escambia County Board of Education has released its requirements for children to receive free and reduced meals for the 2017-2018 school year.

The income eligibility guidelines are dependent on household size and income.

For free meals, household sizes and maximum yearly income are as follows:

• 1 member, $15,678;

• 2 members, $21,112;

• 3 members, $26,546;

• 4 members, $31, 980;

• 5 members, $37,414;

• 6 members, $42,848;

• 7 members, $48,282; and

• 8 members, $53,716.

For each additional family member, add $5,434 per year.

For reduced meals, household sizes and maximum yearly income are as follows:

• 1 member, $22,311;

• 2 members, $30,044;

• 3 members, $37,777;

• 4 members, $45,510;

• 5 members, $53,243;

• 6 members, $60,976;

• 7 members, $68,709; and

• 8 members, $76,442.

For each additional family member, add $7,733 per year.

Applications will be sent home with students once school starts back. Additional copies of applications are available in the principal’s office in each school.

Applications will be reviewed and eligibility determined by Child Nutrition Program Director Susanne Coleman.

If a parent is dissatisfied with the ruling, he or she may discuss it further with Coleman. If the discussion does not satisfy the parent’s wishes, he or she has the right to a fair hearing, which can be requested orally or in writing to John Knott, superintendent of education.

During the course of the year, if a family’s household size or income changes, the parent may file a new application.
