A Castleberry man was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force in Escambia County last week.

William Godwin, 23, was wanted for felony domestic violence/strangulation involving his girlfriend.

Chief Deputy Mike Lambert with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said marshals contacted his office for assistance in locating Godwin.

“The Castleberry Police Department had attempted to arrest Mr. Godwin twice,” Lambert said. “Both times, he fled.”

Godwin was then reported at a residence in the Damascus Community on Camp Dixon Road.

“As law enforcement approached the home, Mr. Godwin was standing in the yard and then ran again,” Lambert said.

The K-9 unit from Fountain Prison was brought into assist, and Godwin was located 45 minutes later near Fish Pond Road. He was taken into custody without incident.

“All this was taking place about the time county school buses would be dropping off students,” Lambert said. “So, for precaution sake, the buses were held until Mr. Godwin was taken into custody. We apologize for the delay, but wanted to err on the side of caution.”

Godwin was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center.
