The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers varsity suffered its first loss of the season versus Class 4A Satsuma in its season opener this past Thursday.

TRM was defeated in straight sets 25-23, 25-19 and 25-23.

Despite the loss, head coach Terri Lynne Thompson said she was proud the way her team played.

“We did fall short, but our girls played with true TRM spirit,” Thompson said. “From the first point until the last they competed. In games one and three we fought to stay on the court winning several points with Satsuma at game point. Steely Ruzic and Addi Smith (Libero) did a good job making some big plays on the back row for us. Abigail Cave and Mary Madison Brown did a nice job putting pressure on the Satsuma offense at the net.”

Myra Reiss led the team offensively in assists and kills.

The JV team picked up its first win, winning in straight sets 25-20 and 25-14.

TRM volleyball will be in action Tuesday at home versus Hillcrest and Jay. The varsity will play Hillcrest at 4 p.m., followed by JV versus Jay at 5 p.m., and varsity versus Jay at 6 p.m.

TRM will play Thursday at home versus Flomaton. The middle school will play at 4 p.m., followed by the JV at 5 p.m., and varsity at 6 p.m.
