Brewton City Schools introduced its proposed school calendar for the 2018-2019 school year Monday night.

BCS Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Varner said the proposed calendar is very similar to the current school calendar.

“We received a lot of positive feedback about the number of days after Christmas,” he said.

Under the proposed calendar, students would return to school on Aug. 8.

Holidays would include:

  • Labor Day on Sept. 3;
  • Veterans Day on Nov. 12;
  • Thanksgiving holidays Nov. 19-23;
  • Christmas holidays Dec. 21-Jan. 4;
  • MLK holiday Jan. 21;
  • Spring Break March 25- March 29;
  • Good Friday April 19.

Varner said one change to the calendar is that students will go to school until the Thursday before Christmas, but will have Good Friday off.

Students will get out of school on May 23.

Varner said that the board will vote on the calendar at the February board meeting.

They are taking feedback and suggestions on the proposed calendar.
