One local church will launch a new ministry in the coming weeks geared toward helping those in need.

Hoomesville Church of Christ, located in the Damascus area will begin a ministry that will give away clothes, household items, baby items and toys to those in need.

The first open date will be Feb. 11, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., at the church.

Wendy Booker, whose husband is the pastor at Hoomesville said they live in Jay and her husband took over the ministry after the previous minister passed away.

“I used to run a clothes closet here in Jay,” she said. “There’s nothing between Brewton and Andalusia and I decided there’s a need for this for people here. I just started asking around and getting donations, and taking stuff out of my own home.”

Booker said they will begin by having the ministry once a month, with the goal of making it twice monthly.

Additionally, she plans to work toward getting a food bank, as well.

“Everything is free and we accept donations that are in good condition,” she said.

The church is located on Hoomesville Road.
