A local church will have a benefit gun auction next weekend to help raise funds to complete a new sanctuary project.

House of Prayer Holiness Church on Appleton Road has been working to raise some $85,000 to complete a new sanctuary, dining hall and kitchen, as well as remodel the current sanctuary into Sunday school rooms.

Pastor Nathaniel Roach said so far they have the new sanctuary framed and dried in.

“We are trying to raise money to finish this project,” he said. “We had a man – who wants to remain anonymous – who said the Lord laid it on his heart to donate the guns to us. He had put them up for sale, but then donated them to the church.”

Roach said they had to decide whether to have an auction or sell to a dealer, but ultimately decided on having an auction.

The auction will be Saturday., March 10, at the Brewton Civic Center located a 1010-B Douglas Ave.

There will be 90 guns up for auction, as well as other miscellaneous items.

Doors will open at 8:30 a.m., the morning of the auction, which begins at 10 a.m.

Guns will not be on site until the day of auction.

All gun laws apply to this auction, Roach said.

There is a $10 transfer fee for the first gun and $5 for each additional gun.

With a valid Alabama pistol permit, no background check is required.
