A Brewton man led state troopers on a 50-mile chase before running out of gas over the weekend.

ALEA officials confirmed that 33-year-old Michael Lawrence of Brewton was arrested Friday night after the chase.

ALEA Spokesperson Lt. Joe Piggott said that law enforcement officials attempted to pull over Lawrence in a 2004 Dodge Durango on Alabama Hwy. 113 after police clocked the vehicle traveling 95 mph in a 65-mph speed zone.

The chase began just after 6:30 p.m., on Friday, and went on for some 50 miles and reached speeds of 100 mph.

The chase ended when Lawrence’s vehicle ran out of gas on I-65 at mile marker 21.

He was charged with attempting to elude and several other traffic violations.
