The city of Brewton agreed Monday to give the mayor authority to enter into a lease and operation of a Maker Market and business incubator.

Mayor Yank Lovelace said the incubator would house small artisanal entrepreneurs who are interested in pursuing.

Lovelace said they have a prospective building that would be rent to own for the incubator.

Lovelace said that it would cost $19,500 for the first year, with booth rentals covering $14,000.

“It would cost the city $5,500 the first year,” he said.

The goal of the program is to enhance the quality of life of the citizens of Brewton by providing facilities, infrastructure and other resources for the development of artistic and economic enterprises.

The council authorized Lovelace to execute leases and other agreements as well as make purchases to provide administration and to mobilize other resources with the expenditure of up to $20,000 of city funds for the purpose of providing the maker market and business incubator in Brewton.

Lovelace said they would divide the space in to 10, 10 x 10 stalls and have one person operate the incubator.
