Joe Eiland Stricklin

Brewton

Joe Eiland Stricklin, 86, of Brewton passed away Wednesday, March 21 at his residence after a brief illness. He was a native of Bulock, a former resident of Andalusia, and a long-time resident of Brewton.

Stricklin attended the Brewton First Baptist Church, was a graduate of Andalusia High School, a U.S. Army Veteran, and a retired wood yard superintendent from the Container Corporation of America/Smurfit Stone with 38 years of service. He enjoyed raising Day Lillies.

He is survived by his wife, Laquetta Stone Stricklin of Brewton; two sons, Mark Stricklin and Tim Stricklin; daughter, Cindy Taylor, all of Brewton; sister, Drucilla Feachen of Andalusia; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Joe Stricklin and Lynn Stricklin; and sister, Vivian Bowen.

Graveside services were scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Sonny Steele officiating. Interment followed in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery Andalusia, Alabama with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

 

Jimmy Ray Travis

Summerdale

Jimmy Ray Travis, 68, of Summerdale passed away Monday, March 19 at his residence after a brief illness. He was a native of Brewton, a former resident of Arkansas and Mobile before moving to Summerdale.

Travis was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Magnolia Springs, a U.S. Marine Veteran having served in Vietnam, and a retired Hydroblaster from the Construction Industry.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Lee Travis of Summerdale; five sons, Jeff Travis of Stockton, California, Ronnie Bradley of Mississippi, Scott Travis of Texas, Sean Travis of Mobile, and Andrew Travis of Atmore; four daughters, Jeanette Hilliard of Foley, Rhonda Kummerfeld of Mobile, Stacey Adams of Buckatanna, Mississippi, and Tina Travis of Foley; sister, Nora Ann Seegren of Crestview, Florida; 18 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; foster parents and other family in Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Travis and Nora Burch; daughter, Rebecca Bradley; and three brothers, Walter Wayne Travis, Ronnie Travis, and David Travis.

Funeral services were scheduled for Friday, March 23 at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. David Bane officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in Beulah Cemetery Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

Mattie Evelyn Jerkins Johnson

Range

Mattie Evelyn Jerkins Johnson, 85, of Range passed away Thursday, March 22 at her daughter’s home in Biloxi, Mississippi, after a brief illness. She a native of Canoe, a former resident of Range, and a long-time resident of Pascagoula, Mississippi, before moving back to Range. Johnson was of the Freewill Baptist Faith, a retired school bus driver from the Pascagoula, Mississippi, School System with 20 plus years of service, and a homemaker.

She is survived by her two sons, Don (Katie) Jerkins of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Dewayne (Shirley) Jerkins of Range; four daughters, Mary VanDevender of Pascagoula, Mississippi, Sharon (Eddie) Wilson of Perkinston, Mississippi, Glenda (David) Shackelford of Biloxi, Mississippi, and Marline (John) Barlow of Range; brother, Roy L. Jerkins of Range; two sisters, Louise Palmer of Montgomery and Joyce Thomas of Pensacola; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; and four great great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Johnson; son-in-law, Chester VanDevender, and grandson, Rusty Bumanglag.

Funeral services were scheduled for Tuesday, March 27 at 11 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Rodger Bradley officiating. Interment followed in Range Cemetery Range with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.
