Clean up on Earth Day

The cities of Brewton and East Brewton are participating in Earth Day on April 21.

“In an effort to keep our communities clean, the Greater Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, along with the cities of Brewton

and East Brewton would like to invite you to participate in our Earth Day Cleanup,” officials said.

On April 21, the Jay Road Landfill will be open from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., free of charge, for residents to dispose of electronics – televisions and trash only.

Televisions and computer components will cost $7 per item.

No tires will be accepted at the landfill, and no household garbage or chemicals will be accepted.

The city of East Brewton will have their trash truck available for East Brewton residents.

Residents may call 867- 7998 to schedule pick-up.

Dumpsters will be at the following locations:

• District 1: Behind Farmers Home Furniture;

• District 2: Hwy. 41 next to Eula Street;

• District 3: Corner of Sowell and Liles (John L. Fisher Center);

• District 4: Corner of East Jackson and Sowell Road;

• District 5: Alco Drive (Behind Arby’s);

No household garbage or tires will be allowed in the dumpsters and not for commercial use.

Tires will be taken only at the city shop on St. Nicholas Avenue, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. The tires will be put in the trash truck, when it is full, no more tires will be taken.

Automobile oil will be accepted at Auto Zone and O’Reilly Auto Parts, as well as automobile batteries.

The event is for residents only – no businesses or commercial organizations, please.
