Making the switch from engineering to nursing isn’t normally something one hears, but it’s exactly what Brewton’s Aleigh Huff did.

Huff has been a nurse a D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital for a year, but has been a registered nurse for three-and-a-half years.

Huff said she studied nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

“I felt like this was a good career to help people, and there are lots of opportunities in nursing,” she said.

Huff works in the intensive care unit at DWM.

“Our patients are critical and you need a lot of critical thinking skills to help them,” she said.

Huff said that she previously worked at UAB’s trauma and burn intensive care unit and was a travel nurse.

Huff said the most rewarding part of her job is seeing patients come in very sick and watch them walk out healthy.
