Saturday is the long-anticipated day – the Burnt Corn Creek Run.

As of press time, more than 250 participants had signed up for the first ever run, coach Atkinson said.

The city developed a challenging three-plus-mile course through the unique terrain of O’Bannon Park, E.O. Wilson and Jennings Park.

Throughout the run, runners will encounter plenty of natural obstacles and trails in South Alabama’s newest run.

Runners will need endurance, strength, speed, agility and a great attitude to conquer the creek.

The proceeds go to help Backpack Buddies and Paws Crossed Animal Rescue.

This family-friendly fun mud run is open to anyone over the age of 12. Runners can expect to slip, slide, climb, jump, slog and crawl their way to a fun finish, where refreshments, music and a band are waiting. We will be running multiple heats including one for competitive racers. The competitive heat will be timed and all awards will come from this heat. Cash prizes will be awarded to the male and female 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers. We will time the elite heat and runners must be in this heat to be eligible for awards. Age division winners will also be selected from the elite heat.

Open heats will start at 9 a.m. and waves will be released every 15 minutes
