WSN softball team closes out season in round one of the playoffs

The W.S. Neal softball team ended their season in the first round of the playoffs in Gulf Shores Friday losing to both Montgomery Catholic and Dale County in the losers bracket.

The Eagles had a tough season, but still was able to get to the playoffs. The girls starting lineup consisted of majority of ninth, eighth and seventh graders.

They dropped game one to the Knights losing 11-2. Head coach Emily Vickrey said, “We need to swing better,” before they played their losers bracket opponent.

Dale County won the game 14-2 eliminating the Eagles from the playoffs. Makayla Crook, Jena Wyatt and Kendall Carpenter all recorded hits for the Eagles.

The Eagles two runs came in the fourth inning.  Montgomery Catholic had 12 hits and had runs in first, third, fourth and fifth inning.

“It was a building year, we had young kids that struggled under pressure,” Vickrey said.  We are going to work hard in the off season and look forward to next year.
