City projects nearing completion

Two new projects in Brewton are nearing completion- the arcade and new arena- City officials told the Brewton City Council at its last meeting.

Mayor Yank Lovelace said, “The arcade will open in just a few short weeks. A few updates on the arcade there will be 12 games inside the arcade and tokens will be used to play the games. The time of opening and closing is still being decided.

Lovelace said, “The walls and flooring have been changed out, along with an indoor party venue on the inside. Food areas will be available. When entering the arcade people will be coming through double glass doors in the front of the building It will be a safe environment, where they will have installed five security cameras on the inside and outside

Additionally, the arena is nearing completion with just a little painting.

“Can anyone ride their horses for practice at anytime during the week,” councilman Joe Watson asked.

“Yes,” Scott Pate, director of parks and recreation, said.

“The gate is up and people are able to walk in and out up and down the sidewalk,” Pate said. “We are working on the bleachers, which should be up by the end of the summer.”

The bleachers will sit at least 900 people.

• In other business, the Council approved vacating Finley Ave., due to non-usage.
