Deliah “Dee-Dee” Jones is someone you may not know, but you should.

Jones is the chief’s assistant and the dispatcher supervisor.

“She is my right-hand man or more like my right-hand woman,” said Police Chief, Kenny Brazile. She is a jewel and she does just about everything.”

Jones was born and raised in East Brewton. She graduated from W.S. Neal in 2010, where she served as a varsity cheerleader for three years.

“I went to Jefferson Davis for a while, but I didn’t graduate,” Jones said. “I had a part time job working at the East Brewton Police Department working helping the dispatcher.

“When I was younger, I admired the police and I always loved to help people,” she added. “The dispatcher’s job was part time, but when it went full time in 2013, I got to do a lot more work.”

She also took on some of the jobs the chief wanted her do to take some of the burden off his shoulders.

“No two days are the same,” Jones said. “It doesn’t get boring.”

She works as dispatcher when someone can’t work their shift. One thing she does appreciate with her added tasks to perform in the office, is the fact that she works straight days, giving her more time to spend with her two sons, Jasean (11) and Ayden (2).

“We are all family here in the department,” she said. “Whatever comes up, we can work it out. I love working here.”

In fact she likes it so much she is thinking about going back to school to take courses in criminal justice.

“I think I would like to do that,” she said. “The chief and I get along very well and I listen when he wants to talk to someone.”

The admiration is on both sides of the coin.

“I can call her for anything and she is a big help,” said Chief Brazile.
