Eagles looking to soar over Monroeville

The lights of W.S. Neal’s football stadium were silent on Friday night as W.S. Neal went through a “bye” week.
Just because the Eagles would not be taking to the field on Friday, did not mean that they would have an easy week.
Coach Andro Williams spent the week with the team preparing for their next challenge.
“We are going to continue to work on us and shine up on fundamentals. If we can improve on blocking and tackling we will be on the other end of the stick next game. We have to continue to get better. Against Atmore the quarterback hurt us with his legs. We have to do a better job at containing the quarterback and also keep from turning the ball over,” Williams said.
Neal fell to Atmore on Sept. 21, but had some golden opportunities in the first half that could not be capitalized upon.
“We have to take care of the ball. We have to find out how to come back and handle adversity without hurting ourselves. We have to work on fundamentals and protecting the ball. We are our own achilles heel on trying to help ourselves but we can overcome those things,” said Williams.
The Eagles returned to the film room last week to evaluate the things that they can improve on and also take a look at the things that they have done right.
WSN also had a physical week of conditioning, running plays, and working on stepping up their physical game.
“We have to have leaders step up. We don’t care what grade they are in, we just need some guys to step up. We have found ourselves and are getting to where we need to. We need to evaluate ourselves and put our package together to put these kids in the best postion to be the best that they can be,” said Williams.
WSN has only four players that started games last year.
Williams is pushing to find leaders on the field and is focused on helping build young men to be the best that they can be.
“Instead of focusing so much on Monroeville, we will focus on us. We are going to focus on taking care of the ball and finishing games. We need to focus on third quarter play. We gave up 30 points in the third quarter and we have to fix that aspect. We are going to get ready and get these guys prepared,” Williams said.
Eagle quarterback, Matt Thomas threw more than 160 yards last week.
Wingback, Ezekial Smith has also become one of the most consistant players for the Eagles.
There are also several other players such as Amon Craig, Tyreke Williams, and Ladarrius Harrison that are stepping up to the plate for the Eagles.
The Eagles will face off against Monroe County High School on Friday in Monroeville at 7 p.m..
