The Tigers have improved their record to 5-0 after a demolishing defeat over Hillcrest on Friday night.
Hillcrest, the defending 3A State Champions, were looking to put away the Tigers on their Homecoming night.
The Tigers elected to defend first to Hillcrest for the start of the game.
For the first two quarters of the game, the ball could not make it on either side of the 30-yard-line for either team.
The TRM and Hillcrest defense took turns battling each other for field position.
TRM made a series of nice plays and came up with one interception that would be ruled an incomplete pass, taking away the chance to take advantage on that play.
Late in second quarter things started to go north for Miller as sophomore, Narkavis Campbell would come up with a huge fumble recovery.
TRM was unable to produce a score on that drive but Campbell helped breath some energetic life into the game.
The first half of the game ended with a scoreless scoreboard and sacks for both teams equaled at three.
Miller came out into the third quarter ready to fight.
The first score of the game came in the form of a two-yard run from Darius Webb.
Matt Morgan would add one point with a good field goal.
The Tigers took the lead 7-0.
On Millers ninth drive of the game, Webb would go down for a brief moment with an injury but would return to play.
On the very next play Campbell went down as well but would too, come back into the game on the very next play.
When you see great plays, they stick out in your mind for years forward.
That type of play would be run by Campbell.
After going down with an injury on the down before, Campbell and the rest of the Tigers lined up to punt.
The punt was faked and an injured but not beaten, Ke’von Samuel busted through the Hillcrest defense in a play that looked to go all the way until he was bought down around midfield.
That setup another two-yard touchdown run from Darius Webb at 5:05 of the fourth quarter, followed by another field goal from Matt Morgan for a TRM lead of 14-0.
The touchdown was followed by a dominant fourth quarter performance from TRM.
Toby Jenkins delivered a thunderous hit that could be heard in the parking lot of Hillcrest High.
Nathan Walker pushed the final nails in the coffin for Hillcrest with a game ending interception.
T.R. Miller walked away with a 14-0 win in the biggest game of the season so far and improving the undefeated record to 5-0.
“This was a big win for our program and the city school system. These kids played their hearts out and I told them before the game, that this a type of game that make memories for the rest of their lives. They left it all on the field. Toby Jenkins had a huge game, Matt Smith, Ricky Samuels and all the seniors played tremendously. I thought Ke’von Samuel was going to go all the way. I just couldn’t be prouder of all these guys,” Coach Keith Etheredge said.
The Tigers will take on Mobile Christian this week at home as they look to make it 6-0.
