The W.S. Neal Blue Eagles are preparing to open regular season play on Nov. 29 against Excel High School.
The Eagles are coming off from a recent tournament trip to Monroeville where they played J.F. Shields High School and Monroe County High School in pre-game action.
The Eagles were unable to walk away with a victory against either team during the tournament but are correcting the mistakes made in preparation for their regular season start against Excel at home.
“We just had too many turnovers, especially against Monroe County. We tied them at 40 with four minutes left but give up 14 turnovers in a row. We also had 33 turnovers against J.F. Shields. I have been worried about ball handling since the beginning and that factor showed itself in the tournament. We have to correct the mistakes and be ready for Excel,” said head coach Dewan Salter.
The Eagles are still being plagued with post-season football injuries as well.
Several players are still beat and banged up from playing on the gridiron as they focus their attention now to the court.
Marcus Page racked up 19 points and 7 rebounds in the 71-39 loss against J.F. Shields.
Isaac Bonham tallied 8 points with 5 rebounds and Ladarius Harrison had 2 points.
Ladarius Harrison also scored 9 points with 2 rebounds in the 68-44 loss against Monroe County.
Page had 9 points and 6 rebounds.
Bonham lead the Eagles with a whopping 21 points and seven rebounds.
All three players received top tournament honors.
The Eagles will continue to improve on the lessons learned throughout the next week and will be ready to stand their ground against the Excel Panthers as they enter the Eagles nest on Nov. 29.
