Gas prices are inching toward $2 per gallon in Brewton this week.
“Our gas prices are falling,” said Clay Ingram, spokesperson for AAA Alabama. “Our state average is $2.15 per gallon, which is 35 cents per gallon less than one month ago. It is also 7 cents less than a year ago, which is surprising as our gas prices this year have been noticeably higher than last year’s prices.”
Ingram said that gas inventories are increasing through the country and demand is declining.
“So, we should see prices continue to drop through mid-to-late January,” he said. “We already have a number of stations around the state that are selling gas for $1.99, so I think there is a good chance to get our state average below the $2 mark over the next six to eight weeks.”
In Brewton, Murphy Express and the Citgo both have gas for $2 per gallon, with other stations around $2.05-$2.10 per gallon.
“Price shopping will certainly help push prices lower,” he said.
