The Lent season begins today and several area churches will mark the state of the 40-day season leading up to Easter with the distribution of ashes and services in reverence of Ash Wednesday.
St. Maurice Catholic Church, 202 East Jackson St., will have two services one at 8:30 a.m. and the second at 6 p.m.
Brewton First United Methodist Church, 820 Belleville Ave., will have services from noon until one and another at 6 p.m.
St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 1510 Escambia Ave., will hold services at 6 p.m.
