W.S. Neal Elementary School’s first grade teacher Brittany Jane Revel made reviewing this year’s math skills more exciting.
Revel completely transformed her classroom into a glow-in-the-dark playroom for her students as well as two other classes. She included games such as jenga, bowling, tic-tac-toe and others. The games tested several math skills the students learned throughout the year such as addition and subtraction.
“I really wanted to refresh our kids’ memory on a lot of the math skills because it’s the end of the year, so they start to forget some of what we’ve taught them,” Revel said. “I wanted to find a way to help them master those skills while also having fun.”
Revel has done a couple of other room transformations for her students in only her first year of teaching at Neal. She also taught for two years in Tuscaloosa County.
“I do this every year because I know some of the content can get boring sometimes,” Revel said. “I want them to be excited to come to school.”
