June 2 – 8, 2019 is National Garden Week as proclaimed by Gov. Kay Ivey in 2017. The Garden Club of Brewton, in recognition of National Garden Week, chose to clean up and add to the outdoor space at the Brewton Head Start facility. With the help and cooperation of Head Start director Tammy Green, we were able to come in and give the space a cleaner look. Leaves, pine straw and other debris were removed from the front lawn space and the fence beside the property. Two planters were spruced up with topsoil, peat moss, pine straw and new plants.

Garden Club of Brewton is an active club that seeks to serve our community wherever a need arises. We are lifelong learners seeking to be informed in the ways of floral design, horticulture, and environmental needs. Another project in the works for the GC of Brewton is adding outdoor rooms and greenery at Brewton Middle School. The plan is to provide a learning space outdoors for students to see and interact with plants and the environment. Prior to this project, GC of Brewton created what the children at BES have named, “Wonder Garden.” It is a fun, educational space in the interior courtyard of the school.

The club looks for ways to improve its community. If you’ve had the pleasure of seeing the work that has been done, you will see this club loves the outdoors and all its beautiful people and places. The garden club would love to have new members come and join us. We meet the first Thursday of every month except for the summer months. Please see any of our members for further details.
