Brewton welcomed the area’s newest Mexican restaurant El Rey Mexican Grill & Bar on Friday. The restaurant’s owner Mark Casillas said the restaurant had it soft opening, but they are hoping to have their grand opening later on this week once their draft beer arrives. El Rey has a full bar, the main dining room and an additional dining space. Casillas said they plan to use the additional dining space for customers to reserve for events such as parties or business meetings.

Casillas said he decided to open a restaurant in Brewton because of the hometown feel he experienced each time he visited here.

“A lot of my family members come to visit here,” Casillas said. “We have visited here a lot, and we love it. Brewton feels like home.”

Casillas said the restaurant has been busy every day since their soft opening. He said that he hopes the wide, clean space and fun atmosphere will keep guests coming back for more. In the future, Casillas said he would like for El Rey to help contribute to the city through helping local churches and schools.

El Rey’s hours are Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and closed Sunday. For more information about El Rey, go to their Facebook page www.facebook.com/ELreyGrillandBar/ .
