The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers put up strong performances last week in the 2019 T.R. Miller Summer Volleyball Tournament at Brewton Middle School.

“Overall, I was pleased with the way all of our teams competed,” T.R. Miller head coach Terri Thompson said. “We look forward to hosting this even at the end of the summer.”

Thompson said the tournament gives them a chance to see where the team stands.

“It’s a great way for us to see what out strengths and weaknesses are going into the season,” Thompson said. “I thought we did a pretty great job on defense. Our libero, Addi Smith, does a great job covering the court. This a new position for her this season, we are looking for her to make some big plays this season.”

As the season approaches, Thompson said the Lady Tigers will work on improving.

“We will spend August cleaning up our offense,” Thompson said. “We know as the competition gets increases, we will need to execute more on the front row. Our senior middle hitter, Abigail Cave, had a great tournament. She was able to find the open spots on the other side of the court.”

Thompson said playing tough teams in the tournament will help them going into the regular season.

“Straughn, Laurel Hill and Jay are all good teams that we competed against in the tournament,” Thompson said. “It’s always nice to win, but we know we still have a lot to clean up. We don’t want to be the same team in October that we were in July. I’m looking forward to working with this team. Our seniors Hannah McFerrin, Peyton Barnes and Abigail Cave have been a part of this program since middle school. I’m excited to see them step up and be leaders for this team.”
