In Sept. of 2018, Curtis Glaize of Brewton passed away after a fatal car accident. At the age of 24 and one week after he had proposed to his fiancée, the young teacher and coach left behind a bright future.

Last year to honor Glaize, a scholarship fund was set up in his name by the family in collaboration with the First United Methodist Church. Locally, thanks to many that donated to the cause, Habitat Restore contributed $1,700 to the fund and looks to continue this year.

This week at Habitat Restore, a percentage of total sales will be contributed to the scholarship fund. “Since Curtis was once an employee of the Habitat Restore and his mother Alecia ran the local chapter of the Habitat for Humanity, we’d like to do our part to keep funding it…with your help,” said Robyn Hydar from the Escambia County Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

Hydar encouraged the public to help by shopping or donating furniture and appliances to the cause. Hydar said, “For this fundraiser, we’re looking for your best stuff; items in great shape that will bring a good price. We would also be grateful for donations from local businesses.”

She added, “Please take a moment to look around your home or business and let us know if you have something that will help raise funds for this good cause.”

To continue his legacy, the Curtis R. Glaize Memorial Scholarship is established to help students from T.R. Miller High School and Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City, where Glaize was employed, achieve academic dreams.
