The game plan for T.R. Miller coach Brent Hubbert appears to be very simple for Flomaton. Stop Hurricane quarterback Daquon Johnson. But that’s only part of the plan. The TRM defense must prepare for other phases of the Flomaton game as well.

The Hurricanes are physical and the defending state 3A champions have something to prove.

Earlier this year, Flomaton lost starting quarterback Zeb Vickery – the coach’s son – to a season-endig knee injury. Coach Doug Vickery quickly moved Johnson – a Troy commit and the 2018 3A Player of the Year – back into his old position at quarterback.

Johnson, who is called “Money,” lives up to the name.

In last week’s 44-21 win over region opponent Thomasville, Johnson ran for 365 yards and a touchdown on 34 carries as the Hurricanes rolled up a total of 527 rushing yards.

Johnson was also 2-of-3 passing for 68 yards and two touchdowns. He had four solo tackles and an interception.

Flomaton’s other offensive weapon, Tank Franklin, ran for 157 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries.

When Coach “V” calls for the air game, Chance James is the primary target. James had 2 TD receptions.

Nick Turner  is the headhunter on defense, recording six tackles against Thomasville.

A Flomaton win sends the Canes into the post-season as the No. 1 seed. A loss to TRM means a No. 4 seed and travel in the first round.
