W.S. Neal hosts No. 1 UMS-Wright

W.S. Neal will close out its home season Friday, Oct. 25, against the state’s No. 1 4A team in UMS-Wright (8-0, 5-0). The Bulldogs whipped Escambia County 31-8 last week while W.S. Neal fell to Andalusia 49-15.

Quarterback Trey Singleton triggers the Bulldog offense. He was 12-of-16 for 160 yards and a touchdown against Escambia County.

Symon Smith leads the run-oriented Bulldogs with 589 yards on 151 rushed, an average of 3.9 yards per carry. Smith rushed for 62 yards on 22 carries, including one touchdown lst week.

Senior Keyshawn Woodyard is the leading receiver with 346 yards on 27 receptions, an average of 12.8 yards per catch. Woodyard led all receivers in both receptions (8) and yards (99) last week. Kade Beard also had a touchdown catch.

Senior R. Brinson has 146 yards on 9 catches, while junior J. Lawrence has 5 catches for 117 yards.

The Bulldogs average 25.6 ppg.

Defense is the Bulldogs’ strong suit. Senior Will Breland  is the bellcow with 57 solo tackles and 41 assists. Senior Pugh has 22 solo tackles and 17 assists. The UMS defense held Escambia County to 31 total yards in the first half.

Junior Edwin White has contributed with 24 solos and 27 assists.

The defense allows 5.3 ppg.

UMS-Wright extended its win streak to 27 games last week and clinched the Region 1 title.
