T.R. Miller came from behind with a fourth quarter touchdown to nip W.S. Neal 7-6 before a packed house Friday, Nov. 1.

Narkavius Campbell fought his way into the end zone from 1 yard out with 9:45 remaining in the game to tie the game at 6-6 and the talented toe of Matt Morgan’s delivered the knockout blow as Class 3A T.R. Miller (6-4) came from behind to defeat Class 4A W.S. Neal (2-7).

“It was a win,” said TRM coach Brent Hubbert. “We’ll take them any way we can get them.”

Amon Craig scored in the first quarter for the Blue Eagles, but the PAT failed for a 6-0 lead.

“I though we had a good plan,” said W.S. Neal head coach Andro Williams. “I thought we should have gone up in the first half by a couple of touchdowns.

“Defensively, I thought we played well as a group.  I thought our offensive line did pretty decent within the scheme we were running. But it wasn’t just one individual, it was the team as a whole. They played hard.”

The two teams traded punches for the rest of the way before Campbell’s touchdown.

The Tigers had a couple of other scoring opportunities, Hubbert said, but failed to convert.

“We got down in the red zone two other times,” he said. “We didn’t score. Got some penalties. Shot ourselves in the foot.”

TRM relied on its running game and Darius Webb responded with 118 yards on 11 carries. Campbell added 52 yards on 12 carries

T.R. Miller opens post-season play Friday with a trip to undefeated Pike County in the first round of the playoffs.

Neal concludes its season.
