Elder Sammie Lee Ball was born on April 25, 1958 in Brewton, Ala., to Clara King and the late Fred Ball. On Sun. Oct, 27, 2019 he entered into eternal rest.

He attended Boykin School and during the time of desegregation he rolled into W.S. Neal High School, where he graduated. After graduation Sammie enlisted in the United States Army where he served for three years. In 1977, he fell in love with a lifelong friend who turned out to be the love of his life, Faye Lindsey. They married on Dec. 29, 1979 and were blessed to share 39 wonderful years together as husband and wife. To this union two beautiful daughters were born; Ronesha and Sabrina.

After completing his tenure in the Army, Sammie continued to serve his country working as a civilian on the Naval Base in Ventura County. Elder Ball was called to the ministry in 1997 and served in that capacity in Oxnard, California until the Lord called the family to move to Houston, Texas in July of 2013. Although he had retired, after the move he did not stay retired for long and decided to work for Katy ISD.

Elder Ball loved the Lord and served him faithfully in many capacities. While in California, he served as Assistant Pastor at New Harvest COGIC, Assistant Pastor at Community Bible Mission and Associate Minister at Ephraim Manasseh. Upon moving to Houston, he joined First Metropolitan Church where he loyally served as a Minister, an Elder, Armor Bearer, First Men’s Ministries, and in the Food Pantry. Sammie was truly a man after God’s heart and as he said, “he loved God’s people.” He put the needs of others ahead of his own and was a living example of the love of Christ by the care and compassion he showed to those around him.

Sammie was also a proud family man who took great joy in taking care of his “Honey”, his “Girls” and his grandbabies. He was a fierce protector who took his roles as husband, daddy, grandpa, son, brother, uncle, relative and friend very seriously. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Dallas Cowboys and Alabama Crimson Tide. He will be remembered for his friendly disposition, sense of humor, kind and generous heart and a quiet strength that impacted all around him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Ball; step-father, John King; brother, Terry King; mother and father-in-law, Roberta and Bernice Floyd; father-in-law, Robert Lindsey Sr.; brothers-in-law, Lewis Brown, Wayne Floyd, Robert Lindsey Jr. and Richard Stephens.

His memories will be cherished by his devoted honey, Faye Ball; daughters, Ronesha Ball and Sabrina (Marques) Rucker; mother, Clara King; brother, Donnie King; sisters Debra Brown and Patricia (Earl) Lane; grandchildren, Ka’den Michael and Lyric Dior; long-time family friend, Terence Wilson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Janice Stephens, Charles (Georgia) Floyd, Carolyn (Craig) Brazzell, Melissa Floyd, Lynn (Darryl) Jackson, Alma Lindsey, Althea Walker, Beverly (Gary) King, Stephen Lindsey, Jeffery Lindsey, Willie James Lindsey, Daryl Lindsey, Alphonso Lindsey and Paul Lindsey; eight godchildren; several adopted godchildren and a host of close aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Although Sammie will be greatly missed by those who love him, it is comforting to know that he is resting with his Savior.

Home going service for Mr. Ball was held on Sat., Nov. 9, 2019 at Greater Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church (13655 Highway 29, Brewton, AL) at 11AM, with Pastor Austin Dillon officiating.

Internment followed at Second Bethlehem Church Cemetery with Military Honors.

Professional care and final arrangements were entrusted to Presley-Fluker Funeral Directors of Evergreen and Brewton, Ala.
