Claire Bell Monk Cobb, a lovely lady who never lost her Alabama southern accent, died Sat., Dec. 7, at the age of 95 in San Antonio, TX.

Claire was the first of two daughters, born July 18, 1924, to George and Lillian Bell in Brewton, Ala. She attended the city schools, graduating from T.R. Miller High School before attending Troy University and Larkin Business School. Over the course of her long life, Claire worked for the Alabama State Department of Education and the Alabama Society for Crippled Children and Adults. She retired as an education specialist from St. Mary’s University in 1989.She was first married to Wesley James Monk, who perished in World War II.

Claire and Joseph L. Cobb were married in 1949, and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in May.

Claire is survived by her husband, Joe; daughter Margaret Monk Broxton of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter Kim Cobb Lofley and her husband, Lin Lofley, of Richardson, TX; son Brian Cobb and his fiancé, Muffy Weyman, of San Antonio. She is also survived by granddaughter Leigh Broxton Bragg and her husband, Djuan Bragg, of Oviedo, Fla; grandson Travis Cobb Lofley of Dallas, TX; great- grandson Neal Benton Wynn of Oviedo, Fla. and her nephew, retired U.S. Navy Capt. Todd Monroe and his wife, Denise, of Bay St. Louis, Miss.

Claire was pre- deceased by her sister Margaret Bell Monroe in 2014.

Claire and Joe lived in Alabama, Texas and Hawaii, where they enjoyed everything the islands had to offer. In San Antonio, Claire and Joe were longtime members of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. After retirement, Claire and Joe loved to travel, whether by motor coach or riverboat. She was an avid reader and spent many happy years puttering in the garden.

A memorial service for Claire will be held at 1PM, Friday, Dec. 13, at Mission Park Funeral Chapel North, San Antonio, TX.
