The roads can be dangerous, especially around the holidays.

Earlier this year, Alabama state troopers responded to 11 traffic deaths from 12.:01 a.m. on Nov. 27 to midnight on  Dec. 1. Of the 11, one crash occurred in Escambia county.

It seems for most individuals, traveling is inevitable around the holidays. This Christmas season, the Brewton Police department is encouraging everyone to travel safely and responsibly.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 37,000 people were killed in traffic accidents  in 2018 alone.

Despite advances in vehicle technologies, the leading cause of death for children over 8 years of age remains motor vehicle collisions.

Around the holidays, drinking and driving is the reason for most accidents that occur. According to the NHTSA, during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday over a 5 year period, approximately 300 people have died each year due to drunk-driving crashes. The BPD and NHSTA encourage everyone to drive cautiously this holiday season.
