The property tax deadline left with 2019. As of right now, any individual who has not paid property taxes in Escambia County is considered delinquent.

“It doesn’t seem to be too far off from where it typically is,” said Escambia County Tax Collector Tim Pettis.

As of Monday afternoon $15,908,011.74 of the $17,447,161.77 taxes owed has been paid.

The taxes were due by 4 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2019. All payments received by mail will be accepted on time if postmarked Dec. 31.

“As of Jan. 1, the property taxes became past due,” said Pettis.

Because of this a 3% interest rate and a $5 collector’s fee is added to the total for each individual. These fees will increase after Feb. 28, 2020.

“Come March 1, we will have added a certified mail fee, another collector’s fee to make it $10 total and a probate fee which is $5,” said Pettis.

Any taxes not paid before May will be advertised and sold at public auction on the front steps of the courthouse. This date is TBD.
