A staple scripture in her life. Strong, determined, role model mentor, sassy, a dynamic and devoted Mother, Daughter, Aunt, Cousin, Friend and Wife.

Tessie Fowler-Floyd was born February 6, 1927 to Luke and Essie Debrow Fowler. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior joining the Welfare Baptist Church at an early age. Her devotion and belief in God has been exhibited throughout her life, always willing to lend a helping hand and nurture those in need.

She was a graduate of the Covington County Training School. She continued her education  by enrolling in a Nursing program in Selma, Alabama. Never ceasing to learn, Tessie was recognized for completing a Beginning Computer Class in 1980.

In June of 1948, Tessie was united in Holy Matrimony with the love of her life, Henry M. Floyd. To this union three children were born, Marquettia D. Chappelle, who preceded her in death, Annettia F. House of Oak Park, Mich., and Alvin M. Floyd of Memphis, Tenn.

Tessie’s work life span the spectrum of disciplines, 24 years at Brewton Fashions (Judy Bond), one year at Alabama Pension and Security,  Home Health Aide, 15 years at Boykin Head Start,  Cook  and Assistant Teacher.

Tessie was a pioneer of the Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she was the adult Sunday school teacher for well over 30 years, a member of the Missionary Society, Charitable Aid Association, a consultant to Vacation Bible School Activities, Founder of Friend and Family Day, served as Chairperson for multiple Women Day Committees, Pastor’s Anniversaries and Church Anniversaries; providing history of the Greater Mt. Calvary Church from its inception. Tessie never tired in giving of her talents and time; a Christ-like quality.

In the early evening of December 24, 2019, God spoke, “The gates are open to enter my Kingdom. You have labored, done my will; your work is done.”

Left to cherish her sweet memories are her daughter, Annettia; son, Alvin (Sharon); six grandchildren, Angelique Chappelle of Denver, Co., Orlando Carver of Edgewood, N.M., Shantay Alexander of Memphis, Tenn.,, Kimberly Davis of Snellville, Ga., Charlotte House of Oak Park, Mi., Tamara Chappelle of Brewton, Ala. and Alia Floyd of Plano, Tx.; six great grandchildren, Kadeem, Kendrick, Michael, Devin, Jamari and Darius; two very special cousins, Sgt. Major James Dyson and Dudley Sims; two dear and devoted friends, Hattie Boyd and Mary Bonham; four generations of nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ending her generation, Tessie was the last living child of Luke and Essie Fowler. Additionally she is also ending the generation of her beloved husband, Henry M. Floyd who preceded her in death.

Funeral service for Mrs. Tessie Lee Fowler Floyd were held on Mon., Dec.  30, 2019, at 11AM  at Greater Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church (13655 Highway 29, Brewton Ala.) with its pastor, Rev. Thomas W. Broughton officiating.

Interment immediately followed at Second Bethlehem Church Cemetery (15401 Highway 29, Brewton Ala.).
