Edward Leigh McMillan III (Ed), 60, died at home on Mon., Jan. 13, 2020, surrounded by his family.

McMillan was born in Raleigh, N.C., the son of Ed Leigh and Mary Anne McMillan.  He grew up in Brewton where he developed a love of nature, hunting and fishing.  It was this love that took him to Dallas County, Alabama, Saskatchewan, Canada, and South Central Kansas where he drew the most joy and fulfillment from sharing his passion for the outdoors with others as the consummate host and guide.

McMillan served more than 20 years as a board member of the Alabama Wildlife Federation, the last two as president.  He served on the board of directors of Cedar Creek Land and Timber and was a managing partner of McMillan Holdings where he enjoyed his responsibilities in land and wildlife management.  McMillan attended St. Stephens Episcopal Church.  He was known to his family and friends as a caring, fun-loving and gentle person.

McMillan is preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife of 42 years, Perri Rigby McMillan, brother Daniel Webster McMillan (Kathy) of Brewton, sons Edward Leigh McMillan IV (Sarah) of Asheville, North Carolina, and Jonathan Rigby McMillan (Melissa) of Evergreen, Alabama; daughter Meredith McMillan Buck (Kyle) of Brewton; and seven grandchildren, Ellie Minge McMillan, Christian Leigh Buck, Cole Henry McMillan, Clara Finnlan McMillan, McMillan Charles Buck, Perri Elizabeth Buck and Emory Ellis McMillan.

Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of life planned for Thur. Jan. 23, 2020, at Double “M” Farms in Brewton at 2PM, with the Rev. Mike Lumpkin presiding.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 58105 or stjude.org/donate) or the Alabama Wildlife Federation (3050 Lanark Road, Millbrook, Alabama 36054 or alabamawildlife.org).
