T. R. Miller Cheerleaders Chloe Smith and Luci Hughes  participated in the parade of a lifetime earlier this month.

After being named Varsity All-American cheerleaders this past summer, the two juniors were given the opportunity to participate in the London New Year’s Day parade.

“We left the day after Christmas and came back on the 2nd of Jan.,” said Hughes.

Accompanied by their mothers, the four embarked on a 10-hour flight overseas.

Joining other participants from all across the country, the girls marched in the 2-mile parade route lined with all of London’s most historical monuments, including Westminster Abbey.

When asked about favorite memories or places from the trip, the girls shared about their time spent exploring the city.

“We had 2 free days and 2 planned days with the group.

We went to Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace,” explained Hughes.

“My favorite thing was visiting Windsor Castle,” shared Smith.

Hughes added, “I liked going to the castles and learning all the history about London.”

Through the experience, the girls explored the new culture and met many new people along the way.

“I met a lot of people, and I loved making new friends,” said Smith.

Overall, there were 4 groups of All-Americans that paraded the streets of London on New Year’s Day. According to Varsity, the organization behind the event,  cheerleaders engaged with fans along the parade route, handing out high-fives and exchanging ‘Happy New Years’ with spectators that came from across the globe to watch the parade.”

Describing the experience, Hughes said, “We felt famous.”

“They loved us!” exclaimed Smith.

Thankful for the opportunity, both girls encouraged rising juniors to participate if given the chance.

“Just being able to get out of your comfort zone and go overseas made it all worth it,” said Smith.

“Meeting new people and seeing new things is why anyone should go” Hughes added.
