Mrs. Edna Laura Hendrith Jones passed from this life on Wed., Jan. 8, 2020. She was the eighth child born to Clara and Arthur Hendrieth, Sr. on Feb. 8, 1938, in Escambia County, Brewton, Ala. After attending Piney Grove Elementary School, she completed her education at Southern Normal High School.

She joined Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. She sang in the Gospel Chorus until her health began to fail. She assisted in writing lyrics for several songs that were sung by the Pine Grove MBC Gospel Chorus as well as being one of the leading vocalists. Edna was a homemaker but was employed for many years at the West Gate Village.

She married Leon Madison and to this union four children were born. Edna was a jolly person who didn’t let the grass grow under her feet; either you accepted her or left her alone.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Arthur Henedreith; a son, Michael Hendrieth; five sisters, Arthurine Smith, Gazella Stallworth, Cleimentine Richards and two died at birth; three brothers, Clarence Hendrieth, Arthur Hendreith, Jr. and Joe Lewis Hendrieth; a grandson, Gramard Leon Robinson.

Those who will cherish her memories: a husband, Johnny Ray Jones; three daughters, Sonya (Willie) Williams, Laganza (Morris) Samuel of Pensacola, Fla., Cynthia (Flint) Fantroy of Blythewood, S.C.; one son, Tyra Madison of Brewton; one brother, Mark (Lillie) Hendrieth of Brewton; one Goddaughter, Cheryl Houser; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Betty Jones; a devoted caretaker, Clara White; a devoted niece, Beverly Stevens; one daughter-in-law, Rose Hendrieth of Milton, Fla; devoted neighbor, Lois Moore and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services were held Fri., Jan. 17, 2020, at 11AM at the Greater Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Straughn officiating.

Interment followed in The Springhill Cemetery with Christian Memorial Funeral Home of Brewton directing.
