‘Steel Magnolias’ to take the stage later this month

Brewton Council of the Arts and Brewton Town and Gown Players are thrilled to be co-producing Steel Magnolias.
This play, made popular by the 1989 film starring Sally Field and Julia Roberts, is a heartfelt story that reminds us of the importance of friendship.
The production, under the direction of Stephen Billy, features six actors and contains all of the iconic moments from the film that we all remember so well.
“This play has been on a my radar to direct for a long time. I’ve always been drawn to the story because of the clever writing and relatable, Southern characters,” said Billy.
The play is set in Chinquapin Parish, a small Louisiana town filled with many notable characters. Specifically, audience members will be introduced to six dear friends that gather together at a local beauty salon, Truvy’s, and make countless lifelong memories. These memories serve as a reminder of how important friendships, both new and old, can be, especially during life’s challenging moments. “Audience members will fall in love with each of the characters and laugh until they cry at the witty banter. Even if you have seen the film, the character dynamics and Southern humor are timeless and just as funny the second, third, or twentieth time. The level of loyalty that these characters show is tremendous and very powerful,” said Billy.
Performances for Steel Magnolias are Thursday, February 13th, Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15th at 7:00 PM and Sunday, February 16th at 2:00 PM. All performances will be held at Woodfin Patterson Auditorium located on the Coastal Alabama Community College, Brewton Campus. Advanced tickets are available online at brewtoncouncilofthearts.com. Tickets will also be available (1) hour before each performance at the door. Tickets are $15.00 for adults, $8.00 for students ages 3-18.
