County Spelling Bee challenges students

Escambia County School System held the County-wide Spelling Bee  on Feb. 5, 2020, at Flomaton High School.

Each year, Escambia County sends one winner to serve as a representative at the state spelling bee in Birmingham.

The winner of the spelling bee was Layla Whiting. Whiting is a 6th grader at Brewton Middle School.

Winners from the Escambia County Schools bees participated as well as the Spelling Bee winners from Brewton City Schools.

School or district winners that participated were-

Lilyanna Hammonds of Pollard McCall Junior HIgh School- grade 5 ( winner of the grades 3-5 division of Escambia County Schools);

Jacob Page from Escambia County Middle School ( winner of the grades 6-8 division of Escambia County Schools);

Haley Jordan from Brewton Elementary School- grade 4; Layla Whiting from Brewton Middle School- grade 6 and winner overall.

Last month the Escambia County Schools Spelling Bee was held Jan. 22 at Flomaton High School.

The winners were as follows: 6-8 division- 1st, Jacob Page, 2nd Jordan Jolly, 3rd, Jay Armstrong,

3-5 division- 1st, Lilyanna Hammonds, 2nd, Bryson Stanley, 3rd James Bell
