This summer, citizens of Brewton can look forward to a new city pool located at Dogwood Hills Park.

The original bids for the project were presented to the council during the Sept. council meeting.

Last week, Brewton City Council members awarded the bid for the project to Cox Pools of Pensacola, Fla.

The total cost of the project is roughly $430,000 and will include upgrades to the bathrooms, outdoor showers and fencing. According to Mayor Yank Lovelace, the upgrade to Dogwood Hills Park should be open to the public by Memorial Day.

“We had been considering adding other amenities to the park, and this was something many residents had asked for,” Lovelace said. “This design will provide something for everyone at the park and should compliment the playground, arcade and bike trails at the park now.”

As reported by the mayor’s office, the new plan submitted by Cox Pools includes a rectangular pool, which will be 2,880 square feet by volume. The pool will be zero entry with a depth of 0 to 5 feet at the deep end. An upgraded concrete deck of 4,700 square feet with fibermesh for reinforcement and an acrylic texture finish with a color seal will surround the pool and the tile color will be boardwalk ocean. The pool will have a zero entry ADA ramp with 2 handrails for those individuals needing more support. Three major water features are planned, including: swaying palm tree, rain tree and five bubblers at entry. Dogwood Hills Park is located at 2385 Douglas Ave. in Brewton.
