City Council approves board nominations

New board members for various city boards were the main topic of discussion at the city council meeting on Mon.

After nominating committees were formed at the last meeting, final nominations were approved for the library and school board.

The purpose of the library board is to advise on projects and needs for the Brewton Municipal Library. After discussion, Councillor Watson nominated Lynette Avant to serve as a public library board member.

Next, a school board position was up for discussion. After consideration, Regina Watson was reappointed as to the Brewton City Schools Board of Education. “We are thankful for all she has accomplished over the years,” said Mayor Yank Lovelace.

In other new business, the action to declare property located at 3520 HWY 31 N. as surplus and authorize the sale was introduced to the council. “This property is 7 acres north of the red water tower we have on HWY 31 before you get to Old Castleberry Rd.,” explained Lovelace.

This action will be considered at the next meeting. Next, the sale of another property was presented and approved by the council. This real property is located at Brewton Technology Park and was marked as surplus and authorized the sale or lease of the property. Finally, Councillor Watson and Councillor Brown were appointed as members of a nominating committee to select two members to the Escambia County Industrial Development Authority. The next meeting is scheduled for March 9 at 4:30 p.m. at the Brewton Municipal Complex.
